Dorota MIŚKIEWICZ & Toninho HORTA

4 September 2023, Thursday, 6 p.m. Old Manege.

Dorota Miśkiewicz and Toninho Horta.
Concert premiere of the album Bon Amigos

After a guest appearance on two songs in the Most Melancholy gala at last year’s festival, one of Poland’s most distinguished vocalists returns with the premiere of an original, international, strictly siesta project! Brazilian music has always fascinated Dorota Miśkiewicz. As the vocalist confesses – she is much closer to the warm south than to the cold north. A manifestation of this affection is, among others, the album Caminho, released in 2008, the colour of which is emphasised by the southern approach to rhythm, not only in sambas and bossanovas, but also in pieces rooted in jazz. Twelve years after the release of Caminho, Dorota has once again ventured south. This time literally. She travelled to Rio de Janeiro, where she recorded an album with a bossanova icon, one of the greatest guitar virtuosos in the world, Toninho Horta. Pat Metheny, with whom Horta collaborated in the 1980s, repeatedly stressed his inspiration by his style of playing, and he was also praised by Milton Nascimento, A.C. Jobim, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock or Keith Jarrett. In the City of Eternal Sunshine, during a week-long recording session with Brazilian musicians (Michael Pipoquinia – bass, Armando Marcala – percussion), Dorota and Toninho created exceptional material that will be released on CD in 2023. It consists of the most beautiful songs belonging to the canon of Brazilian music, including compositions by Toninho Horta. We are happy and proud that the world concert premiere of this extraordinary project will open the 13th Gdańsk Siesta Festival.Feeling the Climate?
